VerifiedX is an official project of Honeytree Technologies and Newsie.social. Designed for the decentralized world of federated social media platforms like Mastodon, VerifiedX acts as a trusted directory and verification tool, helping users connect their accounts to verified profiles. Already powering platforms such as VerifiedJournalist.org, Lawstodon.org, and Verified.thecanadian.social, VerifiedX is focused on improving the reliability and discoverability of accounts across the federated web.

The Challenge

Federated social media platforms offer freedom and decentralization, but with no centralized verification system, they also expose users to risks like impersonation and misinformation. The lack of trusted search, discovery, and identity verification mechanisms made it difficult for users to find credible accounts, and for legitimate users to establish their authenticity.

What We Did
